The charming city of Pisacha, in the south of Campania, offers 90 dilapidated homes for sale for just one dollar, to follow the example of other cities across Italy trying to save dying societies by motivating people to move into them.

But the city, according to CNN reported Monday, January 20, 2020, has set a condition that buyers bring with them their old ways of life, as families or groups of friends are encouraged to buy multiple properties together.

Unlike other cities and villages that offer bids to buyers who implement rapid individual renovations of their buildings, Pisacha city officials say its interlocking architecture leaves room for more participatory projects.

"We are facing a very special situation here, the deserted area stretches across most of the old part of the city, " Deputy Mayor Francesco Tartalia told CNN . The abandoned homes are intertwined together, one after the other, along the same road. Some even share the same entrance. ”

He also continues: “That is why we welcome families, groups of friends, relatives, acquaintances, or investors to join us. We encourage them to buy more than one house so that they can play a role and open up to a new life. ”

As is customary in Italian home sales deals, buyers are supposed to be obligated to renew their property they have just purchased, but unlike other cities there is no announced minimum investment here, and no specific timetable for completing the renovation work.

The real benefit of the city here is that the local authorities have owned all the abandoned homes for many years, after their owners left them and migrated to other cities in search of a better future. In most Italian cities that sold houses for one euro, the transfer of property sometimes involved thorny dealings with the original owners.

“This is a guarantee that the transfer of property will be fast and smooth, as we do not need to track the heirs of the old owners, and we will not get involved in any problems with any third party,” says Tartalia.

The "elegant" city
The city of Pisacha is a quiet spot with a location on two smooth slopes surrounded by a low forest.

But the city, once a prosperous feudal center famous for its wool industry and skilled craftsmen, was struck by immigration at its core. A series of earthquakes, the last of which occurred in 1980, precipitated its abandonment.

“Pisacha was nicknamed the elegant city, because, despite the odds, its people were always respected, hospitable, hard-working and resilient,” says Tartalia. Here new arrivals will be spoiled and cared for. We want this place to shine again. ”

The locals also have a reputation for being friendly and fun-loving, as they like to give funny names to each other, and these names are inspired by the person's qualities and obligations.

But they are also known for their enthusiasm, as the people of the city descend from the Italian Samanite tribes that inhabited the hills surrounding the city, and who valiantly fought the Roman Empire before they were subjugated to them. Legend has it that the city of Pisacha was built on the ruins of the legendary ancient city of Rumelia.

Reserved in time
Some of the authentic attraction of Pisacha is due to the strange atmosphere of deserted sites located next to the vibrant parts of the town full of shops and families.

The old and abandoned dwellings of farmers and herdsmen, built from thick walls with huge stones, are in the historic center of the city, intertwined together at the foot of the medieval castle.

The thick grass grew on the dislocated doors, rusty stairs, and broken windows. You can still find forgotten items and broken kitchens in the rooms piled with debris piles.
