A team of scientists from the Singapore Science, Technology and Research Agency says they have developed a test to determine if someone is infected with the coronavirus in just five minutes.

To determine if a person is infected, the patient's secretions are collected and then analyzed to detect the presence or not of the coronavirus. In 5 to 10 minutes, the portable device gives the result, reports the Mothership site, while with current tests it takes a few hours.
For this, the test uses an enzyme, which the team has developed, allowing an extremely rapid amplification method, dubbed “Cepat”, to “photocopy” the DNA / RNA of the virus in one minute. .

The "molecular photocopier" used by standard laboratory tests would take much longer. What is more, Professor Jackie Ying, who heads the Nano Bio laboratory of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research, says that the test is nonetheless "very sensitive and precise".

Scientists hope to receive approval for their test next month. It could then be used in hospitals and general medicine clinics.
